Well, it ended up NOT snowing overnight so we ended up at the Children's Museum as planned. The kids love to go to the "big city" so they were pumped.
I have to say this class was not as fun or activity filled as the one they went to before. Lynn stayed in with them so I could have some alone time. She said Austin was fascinated while the teacher was talking about space and all the various things that go along with that...rockets, planets, spacesuits, etc. She said Caitlin was more interested in coloring her take home bag. (classic) At lunch Austin informed us that "the sun is hot like fire" - so he was definitely paying attention. Anyway, they had a potty break and I went in the class for the last 45 minutes or so...there were several different areas set up for the kids to make things, but nothing that any of the kids were extremely enthralled with. They could make "space helmets" out of large paper buckets (their job was to decorate them) however the markers & stamp pads were pretty much dry (HELLO...what did our fee go toward?!), they could dip star cookie cutters in yellow paint and decorate construction paper, they could build a rocket w/a paper towel tube, egg carton pieces, sno-cone cups & then decorate it, there was a reading area, a sandbox, some "robotic arm" grabbers that picked up rocks (Austin's favorite thing there), and two pop up tent-like space shuttles. The teacher lacked enthusiasm so maybe that's what was bugging me!
At one point, Caitlin was working on her space helmet and ON HER OWN wrote her name almost correctly (she had CAITIN)...the letters were even in the right order...Lynn and I just did simultaneous jaw drops. WOW.
So after the class we stopped in the little dining hall and had a snack...Austin was adamant he was getting Chips Ahoy and Caitlin insisted on Fritos (although she shared some popcorn too). After eating & potty trips, we left the museum and about 5 minutes into our drive, both kids were asleep! The "car nap" was all they got b/c they were wide awake when we got home. They played for awhile and then I showed them what I bought in the museum...tangrams. We sat on the floor and tried to work on them for about 40 minutes. Austin loved it and wanted to keep going...at that point Caitlin was starting a mini meltdown so she wasn't as into it. Then they ate dinner and went to bed around 7pm.
Oh yeah, did I mention Austin was up at 5:30 this morning?!?!? Now those of you who know me well will know this was not great for me...I LOVE TO SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!! By 6:00 Caitlin was in the room with us and by 7:00 the tv was on...oy! I hate early mornings! Pile on no true nap this afternoon and really, you're playing with fire! :)
Ryan heard from Clint that he and Sarah will be visiting in April! Thinking it will be from the 15th-19th...It will be their first married trip to the Hoosier State. We all love when they come to visit! Austin and Caitlin are already asking if they will play in the basement!
I am excited because we are finally getting some bookshelves for the basement so I can create the kids' book nook! YAY!!!!!!! Once Ryan is home, I'm going to have him hang my pocket chart so I can work on some sight words/rhyming words with the kids. Gotta love my basement "classroom"!!!!!!! They love to learn, I love to teach them, so might as well take advantage!
Some random things that I wanted to share...
**Austin and Caitlin will do the tango. It is soooooooo funny!!! Caitlin bossing him on the proper hold...which she learned from a Clifford the Big Red Dog cartoon!!!
**The nightly underwear ritual...both kids INSIST that they must choose the next day's undies and lay them neatly on the ottoman until the morning.
**Caitlin asked if she could see Jesus. I told her He was in heaven. She said, "I can see Him with my telescope." Austin added that he could see Him with his camera!
**Recently at bedtime, after I left the room I heard Caitlin say, "Hey Austin...wanna play red light/green light?" Then I heard...."RED LIGHT! GREEN LIGHT!" and scampering feet!
I am about to fall asleep as I type...Ryan is coming home tomorrow!!! So probably nothing more on here until Monday or Tuesday...
